The world is ours
No corner of the planet is beyond bounds. Norwegian death metal, Brazilian freak punk, Baille funk, Mexican quiff bop, English punk, electronic pop, Angolan Kuduro music, north African hip hop, the foulest bedsit dubstep, Manchester lad bands, Turkish gypsy music, Goa Trance, Japanese freak noise, African rhythms, Karnatik folk, Greek Mohawked anarchists and Indian metal hardcore – it’s all in here and more; we celebrate the classic Anglo American axis but we are not constrained by it. We are open to suggestions. We are open.
" I can only assume these are the words of John Robb which I quote from the pop culture website that he runs. This excerpt meant something to me as it pretty much describes the music I listen to even down the the seemingly sporadic but well defined and colourful way in which I phase & dive through the genres that complete my existence. I get bored of asking people what sort of music they like and getting the dull and non-specific answer “everything” which often is accompanied with a dismissive shrug of the shoulders and the same question thrown unimaginatively right back at me… well next time I might recite something a little more flamboyant which truly reflects my eclectic taste and varied-ness. I like everything too just like certain people who have very little to say whilst having general small talk or getting to know one another. I don’t knock people for their ability to maintain conversation, however an answer to such a question does I feel reflect not just ones taste, but also level of passion. You can soon tell though that there are those who like “everything” because they don’t have the passion for any particular genre, and those who have so much passion for every genre that they can barely contain it all (and also like everything… everything and then some!)
What sort of music do you like?
